AN AWARENESS SESSION ON MILLETS AS A PART OF INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF MILLETS 2023 FOR MVGR STUDENT COMMUNITY IN CONNECTION WITH G20 PRESIDENCY SUMMIT

 

Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Nehru Yuva Kendra Vizianagaram in coordination with MVGR College of Engineering has organised a District Level Neighbourhood Youth Parliament with a Theme of Internatinal Year of Millets (IYM) 2023 & India’s Role on G 20 Presidency.

  1. Vikramaditya, District Youth Officer of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sanghatan Vizianagaram, said that everyone should be aware of the consumption of small grains. He participated and spoke in the Neighborhood Youth Parliament program organized under the auspices of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan. He inspired students with motivational inputs towards career development and growth along with social responsibility.

Mr. VT Rama Rao, Joint Director, Department of Agriculture stressed that the year 2023 has been declared as the International Year of Small Grains. He said that health is good through consumption of small grains. He said that there is a need to create a wide campaign in the villages on the use of small grains by the youth.

Dr. K.V.L. Raju, Principal, MVGR College of Engineering emphasized that India has a world in the fields of SPACE, and service sector along with medical development.  It is a matter of pride for India to host the G20 meeting. He expressed about concern that environmental protection has been neglected in the name of modernization.  He advised to live close to nature. Later he inaugurated the Millets Stalls to create awareness.

As part of Yuva Samwad programme, L. Mounika Mahalakshmi, Pravallika MVGR College, Sai Swaroop and other student representatives have spoken vividly on the issues of India's role representing G20 member countries on youth global policy and they impressed the officials.

Dr. U. Triveni, a scientist of the Agricultural Research Institute, proudly opined that it is an honor for India to be at the forefront of promoting small grains. International Importance of Small Grains, Immense Need of Small Grains at global level, Reasons for Decline in Area of Small Grains, Cultivation Method of Small Grains, Uses of Small Grains, Nutrients of Small Grains and Value Addition of Small Grains.  Her Presentation made the students to ponder on the need for millets in their daily routine.

All the dignitaries and guests have been felicitated by Nehru Yuva Kendra and distributed mementos to participants of YUVA SAMVAD.
