MVGR Observes World Environment Day with Tree Plantation Program

MVGR College of Engineering (Autonomous) commemorated World Environment Day 2026 by organizing a tree plantation programme on its campus. The initiative was jointly conducted by the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit, the Department of Civil Engineering, and the Institution's Innovation Council (IIC), reaffirming the institution's commitment to environmental sustainability and ecological conservation.
The programme was organized under the global theme “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.” with the objective of creating awareness about environmental protection and encouraging sustainable practices among students, faculty, and staff.
The event was inaugurated by Prof. Y. M. C. Sekhar, Principal of MVGR College of Engineering, who emphasized the importance of environmental conservation and the collective responsibility of individuals in safeguarding natural resources. Addressing the gathering, he highlighted that tree plantation is one of the most effective measures to combat climate change, improve air quality, and maintain ecological balance for future generations.
As part of the programme, several saplings were planted at strategic locations across the campus to enhance its green cover and promote biodiversity. The initiative reflected MVGR's ongoing efforts to create a sustainable and eco-friendly campus environment.
Mr. N. Shanmukha Rao, NSS Programme Officer, coordinated the programme and stressed the importance of nurturing the planted saplings to ensure their healthy growth and long-term environmental benefits. He encouraged participants to adopt environmentally responsible practices in their daily lives and contribute actively to environmental protection.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty members, and staff from various departments of the institution. Their active involvement demonstrated a shared commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
The event concluded with a pledge to continue supporting environmental conservation initiatives and a message encouraging everyone to contribute towards building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.
