MVGR College of Engineering – 80th Independence Day Celebrations

MVGR College of Engineering, Vizianagaram, celebrated the 80th Independence Day with great patriotism, discipline, and enthusiasm on 15 August 2026. The celebrations were graced by the esteemed Principal, Prof. Y. M. C. Sekhar, as the Chief Guest, in the presence of the respected Director, Sri. P. Sitharama Raju, faculty members, staff, and students.

The ceremony commenced with the Guard of Honour presented by the NCC cadets to the Chief Guest, followed by the unfurling of the National Flag. Under the supervision and guidance of ANO Lt. N. Mehar Vasu and CTO L. Sowmya, the NCC cadets showcased an impressive and disciplined drill parade, reflecting the values of leadership, unity, discipline, and commitment. The drill contingent was led by senior NCC cadet Sergeant A. Yaswanth Nagendra, whose leadership contributed to the successful execution of the parade.

The celebrations also featured an energetic Girls' NCC Wing Parade and an impressive NSS Parade, reflecting the spirit of discipline, service, and national pride. The NSS drill was conducted under the guidance of College NSS Programme Officer Shanmukha Rao, highlighting the spirit of service, teamwork, and social responsibility among the volunteers.

Adding vibrance to the celebrations, students presented captivating cultural performances, including patriotic dance performances that beautifully reflected India's rich heritage and the spirit of unity in diversity. A spectacular Tricolour Saree Formation and thrilling acrobatic displays by the Senior Division (SD) NCC Cadets were among the major highlights of the programme.

As part of the Independence Day celebrations, a β€œHar Ghar Tiranga” Rally was also organized, with students and volunteers spreading the message of patriotism, national unity, and pride in the Tricolour. The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from the college community and reinforced the importance of carrying the spirit of patriotism beyond the campus.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Y. M. C. Sekhar, Principal and Sri. P. Sitharama Raju, Director delivered inspiring messages emphasizing the importance of patriotism, discipline, responsibility, and the significant role of youth in building a stronger, progressive, and self-reliant India.

As part of the celebrations, gifts were distributed to the winners of various competitions conducted in connection with Independence Day. The winners were:

  • Elocution Competition: Akshaya – 23331A0525, CSE
  • Poster Making Competition: Durba Rohit Sai Ram Vidya Sagar – 23331A1233, Information Technology
  • Blog Writing Competition: Labhala Venkata Harshitha – 24331A0496, ECE, Section-B

Certificates of Appreciation were also presented to NSS volunteers in recognition of their outstanding contribution, dedicated service, and commitment to society.

The celebration concluded on a solemn and patriotic note with the singing of the National Anthem, β€œJana Gana Mana,” leaving the entire gathering filled with pride and a renewed commitment to serving the nation.
